Żar is located at the northern edge outskirts of Beskidy mountains – a few kilometres to the north a flatland starts. In other directions Zar is surrounded by mountains reaching 1000 – 1800 metres with wide valleys.. Żywiec valley with major water reservoir is extending few kilometres south. Further to the south -east Tatra mountains are located and Fatra mountains connect the area to the Martin Valley well known for pilots flying in Prievidza and Nitra.
